Kano Inlet

hauling up a huge queen charlotte islands halibut caught at kano inletThe MV Salmon Seeker is anchored in Kano Inlet, on the remote west coast of the Queen Charlotte Islands. The Queen Charlotte Islands lie just south of Alaska and are in the path of millions of migrating salmon as they thunder down the British Columbia coast. The Inlet provides a sheltered bay to anchor the 180’ vessel with close access to the fishing grounds. The area is so remote that the only other boats you’ll see on these waters are other MV Salmon Seeker guests.

The continental shelf is only a few miles offshore from Kano Inlet, creating a narrow corridor for salmon as they avoid the deeper waters of the open ocean. The abundance of herring in the water and the number of different migrating runs of salmon mean that from June through September, there is an abundance of actively feeding salmon that stream the area, providing excellent salmon fishing grounds for adventurous anglers. No self respecting salmon can pass up a properly rolling cut plug herring as it dances in front of its mouth.

queen charlotte islands fishing trips are sure to put a smile on your faceThe waters off Kano Inlet are known for their monster halibut with the 2004 season high topping the scales at just over 300 lbs. These bottom dwellers range over the coastal shelves like vacuum cleaners, and when hooked by a fisherman, prove to be an intense and rewarding fishing experience.

Queen Charlotte Islands salmon fishing is often called “Extreme Fishing” due to the ever changing weather conditions, the remote location, breathtaking scenery and extremely good halibut and salmon fishing. The MV Salmon Seeker is in the heart of it all; it’s the last great fishing frontier.
