"Never in more than a decade of producing "North American Outdoors" television for ESPN have we enjoyed better king salmon fishing. It's simply world-class." - Steve Pennaz, Executive Director, North American Fishing Club.
The MV Salmon Seeker, anchored near Kano Inlet, is known for its trophy salmon fishing - and reports so far indicate that nothing's changed. The 64 lb spring caught in July can attest to that. Guests are bringing in springs, two and three at a time, ranging from 25-35 lbs. The Coho too are making their presence known providing anglers with a great fight. Averaging 10-15 lbs, these feisty fish are so thick that some anglers too exhausted to fish on their final day.
But it's the reputation for excellent halibut fishing that is building within the fishing community. In the month of July alone, 7 anglers caught halibut over 100 lbs. with two over 200 lbs. The season record stands at 265 lbs with many more trips this season.
Dee and Jim Joswick of Ravensdale Washington know the thrill of catching huge halibut. In fact, they both caught monsters at the same time. Jim hooked his first, and as he was playing the fish, Dee struck one too. Jim wrestled his to the surface, and while the guide harpooned it, Dee's surfaced and dove right down again. Several minutes (and sore arms) later, Dee finally managed to get the beast in the boat. Both attained masterfisherman status with his halibut at 108 lbs and hers at 106 lbs.
