Queen Charlottes Fishing Report

MV Salmon Seeker - August 3, 2006

Today was the day of the halibut.

BC fishing lodgeAs I have said in the last two reports, halibut fishing was taking a back seat to salmon. Well, not any more. Our guests went out fishing with a vengeance for halibut…

Our guests from Arizona are in the midst of a derby and doing very well.

  • Gary Debenardi — 73 lb halibut
  • Scott Truitt — 60 lb halibut
  • Josh Cameron — 50 lb halibut

As for salmon, Mark Tafoya caught a 14 lb. Coho, narrowly missing Scott Truitt’s 14 ½ lb Coho which still holds the trip record. Don Benette is still in the lead for Chinook with his 37 ½ pounder.

Outside the the derby. Garry Petrus caught a 20 lb Coho (very nice!). The last time a 20 lb Coho was caught was in 2001, so this is a true accomplishment. Then Jesse Eckenprth caught a 124 lb halibut. We’re going to run out of room on the Masterfisherman’s wall!

That’s all from today, so I’ll sign off from Givenchy anchorage in Kano Inlet.
