Queen Charlottes Fishing Update

MV Salmon Seeker - June 11, 2007

halibut fishingIt’s been a productive few days up here at Kano Inlet. After hearing about some potential rough weather we sent a recon boat outside Givenchy anchorage to get a visual on the weather. The fishing gods were smiling, though, and guests had a great day.

Some notable catches include a 31 lb. Chinook caught by Theodore Houston of Colorado and a 30 lb. Chinook caught by Shaun Brakstad of Saskatchewan.

Anyone who’s been fishing in the Queen Charlotte Islands knows that wildlife is a big part of the experience. On Sunday a Killer whale swallowed a whole salmon on of our guest’s lines and started to run — just another day at the MV Salmon Seeker.

Some more trivia to start your week: do you remember these nautical measurements?

  • 1 nautical mile = 1.15 statute mile = 1.85 kilometer = 2,025 yards = 10 cables.
  • 1 cable = 0.1 nautical mile = 202.5 yards
  • 1 knot = 1 nautical mile/ hour
  • 1 fathom= 6 feet 2 inches = 1.83 meters
