To get you in the mood for the upcoming season, here is a letter written by John Metcalfe about his first trip to the Salmon Seeker.
If I was to reduce our trip to the Salmon Seeker to just three words they would be: Best trip ever.
It was our first trip fishing fully off the west coast of the Charlottes and our first trip with a guide, after a trip to Rivers Inlet and two to Langara.
Of special note was our guide, Bladon Zaplotinsky — clearly we hit the jackpot. Great work ethic, very personable, knowledgeable and clearly motivated to tailor things to suit us. Cathy much appreciated his accommodating her occasional struggle with the bigger swells by seeking tamer fishing grounds, and both of us applauded the slower but way more comfortable boat speeds Bladon employed under choppy conditions. These are small items to some but huge to us.

The Salmon Seeker (along with its gracious and helpful crew) provided the best, most comfortable ship-based accommodation we have experienced so far. When I asked on our way home if Cathy would like to do that trip again, her response was “in a flash!” We keep thinking we’ll forgo west coast fishing trips for a while in favour of a hot destination winter holiday, but it seems her vote is for more OBMG fishing. Hmmmm…
Here is a picture from the trip. The Spring was a solid 40 pounder and the biggest for that trip. I’m thinking of labelling this True Love on the North Pacific or, more simply, Husband and Wife Gathering Dinner.
Cheers,
~ John W R Metcalfe
