Twin 39s, revving for 40
MV Salmon Seeker - August 20, 2006The ridge of high pressure that seems to like the Queen Charlottes has continued to hang around, giving us yet another fine day of sunshine, warm temperatures and light to moderate winds. A lot of faces are getting the tanning treatment as a bonus to fishing these days!
The fishing has been steady with boats in all the favourite spots from Marble Island in the south to Cone Head in the north. What makes it interesting is that yesterday’s hot spot is not producing at the same level today, and that is where the skill of the guides comes in.
Fourteen-year-old Nikolaus von Diest from Germany had never fished for salmon before and on his first night he caught a 20 pound Chinook. Clearly bitten by the salmon-fishing bug, his efforts today moved him up the scale with a 39 pounder! He and Pascall Rollman of Vancouver are now tied for the largest salmon of the trip. Tomorrow being the last day of their trip, there will be some major efforts by the rest of the party to get to the big 4–O!
